Jasmine's Story

Every once in a while, you get an email with a very heart warming story, and such is the case with this one.  But when you think about it, how can stories that involve animals not pull on your heartstrings!  I am always amazed at how their nurturing nature kicks into high gear just when needed.  Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

True Story.

In 2003, police in Warwickshire , England , opened a garden shed and found a whimpering, cowering dog.  The dog had been locked in the shed and abandoned.  It was dirty and malnourished, and had quite clearly been abused.
In an act of kindness, the police took the dog, which was a female greyhound, to the Nuneaton Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, which is run by a man named Geoff Grewcock, and known as a haven for animals abandoned, orphaned, or otherwise in need.
Geoff and the other sanctuary staff went to work with two aims: to restore the dog to full health, and to win her trust.   It took several weeks, but eventually both goals were achieved.  They named her Jasmine, and they started to think about finding her an adoptive home.

Jasmine, however, had other ideas.  No one quite remembers how it came about, but Jasmine started welcoming all animal arrivals at the sanctuary.  It would not matter if it were a puppy, a fox cub, a rabbit or, any other lost or hurting animal.  Jasmine would just peer into the box or cage and, when and where possible, deliver a welcoming lick.

Geoff relates one of the early incidents.  "We had two puppies that had been abandoned by a nearby railway line.  One was a Lakeland Terrier cross and another was a Jack Russell Doberman cross.  They were tiny when they arrived at the centre, and Jasmine approached them and grabbed one by the scruff of the neck in her mouth and put him on the settee.  Then she fetched the other one and sat down with them, cuddling them."
"But she is like that with all of our animals, even the rabbits. She takes all the stress out of them, and it helps them to not only feel close to her, but to settle into their new surroundings.  She has done the same with the fox and badger cubs, she licks the rabbits and guinea pigs, and even lets the birds perch on the bridge of her nose."

Jasmine, the timid, abused, deserted waif, became the animal sanctuary's resident surrogate mother, a role for which she might have been born. The list of orphaned and abandoned youngsters she has cared for comprises five fox cubs, four badger cubs, fifteen chicks, eight guinea pigs, two stray puppies and fifteen rabbits - and one roe deer fawn.  Tiny Bramble, eleven weeks old, was found semi-conscious in a field.  Upon arrival at the sanctuary, Jasmine cuddled up to her to keep her warm, and then went into the full foster-mum role. Jasmine the greyhound showers Bramble the roe deer with affection, and makes sure nothing is matted.

"They are inseparable," says Geoff. "Bramble walks between her legs, and they keep kissing each other.  They walk together round the sanctuary. It's a real treat to see them."

Jasmine will continue to care for Bramble until she is old enough to be returned to woodland life.  When that happens, Jasmine will not be lonely.  She will be too busy showering love and affection on the next orphan or victim of abuse.

Pictured from the left are: "Toby", a stray Lakeland dog; "Bramble", orphaned roe deer; "Buster", a stray Jack Russell; a dumped rabbit; "Sky", an injured barn owl; and "Jasmine", with a mother's heart doing best what a caring mother would do...and such is the order of God's Creation.

In case you were wondering, the photos and story were verified.
Thanks for stopping by.

Have a great day, and don’t forget to stop by over the weekend to see just what the ACJ crew is up to.

It is so nice to know that they are there, always supportive one way or another.
I thought I would do kind of like a little dedication post for each one….one week at a time. I would like to do them all in one day, but that would make this post waaaaaay too long, so here goes the first one.

Favorite Blogs!

Today, I thought I'd share some of my favorite blogs!  The ones I visit the most.

Click on the logos to be taken directly to blogs!
First one is a friend of mine, I can't stay away from her blog and must know what she is up to!  She is one talented lady!

This next one was so much fun!  She blogged a collection a day for an entire year!  It ended now but still fun to go back through the days and see her collections!

Here is one that I can't figure out how she finds the time to blog!  Another talented and one busy lady!  Not only does she make her own beads, but now she has a line of fabrics and is opening her own B & M store!

Next is Valerie from Valerie's Gallery!  She is an amazing knitter and felter!  Another one I must see what she is up to!  Now, she got herself a spinning wheel!

Here is Marcy!  She makes the most amazing lampwork beads!

Michelle is a Vintage Junky!  Gotta love that!

Here is 1950's Atomic Ranch House!  *sigh* Can you say DROOL blog?  Wow.

Anyone ever watch those Flip This House shows and they come across the old houses from the 50's or 60's and say, EW, that tile has got to go or that kitchen needs to be totally destroyed?  It makes me cringe!  I would just love to have an entire house furnished with 50's and 60's items!  Take a look at this blog!

While at that blog, check out her Save the Pink Bathrooms blog!
Hope you've enjoyed some of the same blogs I do!  Now you know what I'm doing all day long
Have a great day!

THE WONDERFUL FELTED PURSE

My new passion is the felted purse, not for me to make because I believe they are beyond my abilities, but to look at, enjoy, and some day to purchase.  They are so beautiful and the artists who create them have such talent and imagination.  In my many random searches I have found that there is also a wide variety of designs.  To create the felted purse is not an easy, quick little hobby.  It takes extreme patience,  perseverance, dedication, hours of work, and a focus on the end result.

Here are some of the very talented artists who are creating these little masterpieces of  useful art:

WIRED....THE VINTAGE WAY!

I know there are many meanings for the word "wired" in our world today, however I like the vintage kind of "wired" best!

                               FLOWER FROG

Just look at this wonderful old flower frog!  Perfect for holding office pens, art brushes, makeup brushes...or flowers.

                                Wire Basket

Can you just picture this basket with little bottles, each holding a single flower....or filled with small towels in a bath, cloth napkins at an outdoor dinner...or?

                             Antique French Wire Church

I love this old wire church or school sculpture, what a great item to decorate around...

                                Wire Egg Basket

I know this is for eggs, and that would look great...but imagine it filled with old spheres...croquet balls,  glass floats, or grundgy baseballs...how fun would that be?

                          Wire In and Out Basket

I have several of these old wire office baskets...I use them to store all kinds of items, even paper!

Just click on the name beneath each photo to be taken to the item and the shop it can be purchased from....

A Trip to the Falls

I am a native New Yorker (state, not the city) and every vacation that we went back “home”, a trip to Niagara Falls was on the list of things to do.  One might think that after seeing it a couple times you don’t need to go any more, but it was always a great time with family.

There also had to be discussions about “which side do we visit this time:  USA or Canada”, or “anyone want to take the boat trip”?  Back in the day, if we left early enough we could go to both USA and Canadian sides, but that was rare.

Here are some great images of the falls.

There are some places along the river before the falls where you can get so close you can almost feel the rush of the water.  I remember one year I took my video camera, stood as close as I could to the railing and shot from down the river right to the “drop”.  (and tried to do it fast enough that you would get dizzy watching it ~ lol)  With the sound up, you could hear the force of that mighty river.

For some great information and background on the falls, just click the link below.

There is also a “web cam” in the upper left corner that I’m hoping will be working at the time you read this.  (at the time of my posting, it was down for maintenance)

Hope you enjoyed this little trip to Niagara Falls.  If you ever have a chance, I highly recommend a visit.  You won’t regret it!
Have a great weekend
