"A Day In The Life With Jennifer"

I’m always amazed at the creative works that people can do.  Well, maybe amazed isn’t the right word.  In ‘awe’ might be more appropriate.  I mean, what I go to the store to buy, people make!  How come I can’t make stuff like that?  I guess because others do it, so I can buy it!  Haha  So here we are, about to visit another handmade shop owner.  And she does double duty.  When you get to the end, you’ll see what I mean.  (and don’t you dare go jumping to the end right now – I’m watching you)  Come join me once again as we take a trip to:

“A Day in the Life with Jennifer, owner of

Duuude:  Jennifer, how long have you been making beads?

Holiday Beads
Jennifer:  I have been making ceramic beads for 13 years.

Duuude:  What inspired you get into this area of crafting?  What kind of tools do you use?
Jennifer:  I have been making clay things for as long as I can remember. Actually, before I can remember. My mom has a clay ladybug I made when I was two.
Duuude:  Tell us a little bit about your process for making beads

Her studio - Awesome!!!
Jennifer:  I hand form most of the beads I make. If I am making a pendant I will roll out a flat piece of clay and then cut the shapes from it. There aren't a lot of tools involved in making beads. I have a rolling pin, a piece of cloth, and a needle tool for the most part.

Duuude:  Where do you typically get your supplies?

Jennifer:  I like to get my supplies for bead making close to home. Clay is heavy and very expensive to ship. I can drive to my local ceramic supplier and not have to pay shipping.

Duuude:  Where do you get your ideas for your designs?

Jennifer:  I pretty much look at everything and think, "How would I make that out of clay?" I came up with my woodland beads sitting in my backyard looking around at the scenery.

Duuude:  Where do you sell your items?  Do you take custom requests?

Jennifer:  I sell my items on my website,www.jangles.net, and my Etsy shop, www.jangles.etsy.com. I am always happy to speak with someone about special requests.

Duuude:  Anything else you'd like us to know?

Her book
Jennifer:  If you're interested in making your own ceramic beads, I have a book called "Ceramic Bead Jewelry" by Lark books it has everything you need to know. I have also found myself in the role of fabric designer lately. I have a line of fabric out right now in Quilt Shops. It is sold through "InThe Beginning Fabrics"

Duuude:  Do you have a blog or any other sites that you are involved in that you would like to share with us?

Jennifer:  My blog is www.jenniferjangles.blogspot.com and I am also an editor at the Art Bead Scene Blog

Now, you can follow Jennifer on her blog!  I asked Jennifer about her fabric line that she has designed and is being manufactured by “In The Beginning Fabrics”.  They currently sell to retail stores, but if you are interested in her fabrics, here are a few shops on Etsy that are currently carrying her line.  You can also search “Happy by Jennifer Heynen”.

I want to thank Jennifer for taking the time to visit with me in cyberspace during this busy holiday season.  Don’t forget to check in tomorrow to see what RWS is up to, and tune in next week to see what shenanigans I can get into.  Hehe
Until then …

What a nice surprise it is to see Jennifer's bright and wonderful work this morning! She does fantastic work, just go to her Etsy shop and look at her sewing needles! And I've picked up some of her flowers for gifts. I'm in love with her fabrics!

Jennifer, thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this interview!
