How does the garden grow?

Well, this year it has been doing beautifully.
It is the first year that we really made a serious vegetable garden.

We picked out a nice sunny spot, got some fencing that would keep even the deer out. Drove over an hour to get some black gold from my girlfriend’s stable. Decided what vegetables we wanted to grow and how they would be planted so the tallest wouldn’t shade the shorter plants.

Okay so we didn’t plant it perfectly and will have some improvements for next year. But you live and learn…right?

We must have planted about a dozen different tomato plants and they got huge! Tons of tomatoes popping out all over…..just have to wait for them to ripen…..
Oh wait….here comes a little chipmunk.
shrumgraphics
He runs right through the fencing.
I didn’t think too much about it until I saw one of the tomato plants quivering. I went out to the garden and sure enough the chipmunk was munching on about 5 different tomatoes!
He even climbed up the plant and half chewed ones still on the vine.

So now each day I go and check out the tomatoes to see if any are just starting to turn. If they are, I pick them and let them ripen inside.
I gather the half eaten ones and put them near the fence hoping that the chipmunk will finish them off and leave the others alone.

I got the tomato situation (sort of) under control and then I see that there are some ears of corn ready to be picked.

This corn tasted soooo good! I don’t know if it was because they were so fresh or the fact that we grew them.
I notice that over the next few days that I will be able to pick some more ears, and I can’t wait.

Now why is that corn stalk shaking like that?
OH!
There is a squirrel sitting in my corn stalk!

I walk (quickly) to the garden and the squirrel peeks at me and takes off, guess he knew I was pissed…
I look at the corn and he climbed up each corn stalk and stripped away the husk and ate one side of each cob.
I don’t mind sharing, but it would have been nice if they ate one or two whole corn cobs and left a few of the others….why eat only half?
*hmph*
The squirrel must have come back looking for more because now my corn stalks are all bent and broken. I can’t even use them for fall decorations……

Now, I am just waiting for the chipmunks and squirrels to discover my chili peppers….HA!

A Pop Up Vintage Sale????

What's that???

Well one thing it can be called  is lots of fun!

We were invited to participate in one that happened Saturday, Aug. 13...it was a first for us...and we had so much fun...found some wonderful "stuff" to buy and also sold lots of  "stuff"...the bestest of both worlds :)

The venue was perfect....a wonderful building with lots of old brick walls, original stenciling around the ceiling, great architectural elements, the perfect atmosphere for a sale of vintage items....
The other sellers were great, somehow our items blended together and created an irresistible vintage collage....at least irresistible to me....I found so much I needed to buy!  Even better we turned out to be a very compatible group, lots of talking and laughing....fun!

The customers were super...several were planning Vintage themed weddings (hint...this seems to be the latest trend for weddings) and helping them find the perfect items to enhance their weddings and later their new homes was ....let me say it again....fun!
Thought I would share with you photos of the shops setup for the sale and links to each of them...this way you can be part of the fun too!

Entering the building the morning of the sale this is the sight that greeted everyone...
                                        FOUND

Who can resist a cabinet loaded with chemistry glass?  I couldn't...just sayin!

"Found" is a company that rents and sells vintage items, specializing in props for weddings...click on the name and check them out...you will love what you find.

They are the owners of the amazing location where the sale was held...below are a couple more photos of the items they had in this sale.

By the end of the 4 hour sale they were pretty much cleaned out...

We first heard about the sale when Danni of "OhHelloFriend" sent us a message asking if we would be interested in participating....It took us about 5 minutes to decide...YES!

                                   OhHelloFriend
This is a photo of part of her display, sigh....so much great "stuff"....

Tucked in another corner of the front room was "Ruche" with a table full of wonderful items and racks of vintage clothing...(vintage clothing was one of the "hot" items at this sale!)

                                Ruche

When you look at the photo of the view that greeted the customers you can peek through the door at the back and look into the other room where 6 more sellers were located....
                           AmeeliaBedelia

She describes her style this way...
"I love the patterns, shapes and textures of the mid-century era....I love discovering little pieces of history and using them to transform my space. I am also addicted to bright colors, especially coral and mint."

                          Bohemiennes
A great selection of vintage clothing, wonderful handmade pillows and to quote them " one-of-a-kind items, other items are handmade or repurposed from vintage elements".

                             SalvageLife
You can see by her photo the great selection of vintage clothes, handbags and home decor she carries...also check out her blog for info on the B&M shop she is opening....and more of her unique items she collects and sells,  Salvage Life Blog

This great area was the combination space of 2 sellers, both with an incredible eye for what is unique and stylish.....You can find them here:
The House of Blessings  and here: The Tarnished Crown

Last of all was our space....
         VintageEmbellishment aka  VE

Whew!  Lots of great "stuff", great sellers, great venue and great customers...once again...say it with me please....FUN!

If you click on each of the seller names you can find their shops and/or blogs :)

A Simpler Time ~ 1960's

The 60’s: different colors, different styles, and a whole lot of fun stuff.  As RWS would say, “Vintage ROCKS”!!!  More and more, items from times past are becoming the items we crave today.  To the older generation it’s memories of good times, great quality and a piece of our youth.  To the younger generation it’s something new and unusual.  No matter your age or background, vintage items just seem to touch our hearts for some reason.
Here are a few items from the 1960’s ~ maybe something will stir a memory in you!

Click on the items to go to each shop and see more.
I think some of those items were found in my house!
Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by.

Vintage Storage!

They say if you have more than two of something, it's a collection.  So, I guess I'm collecting metal storage boxes!
I have these three large sizes.  I use the hang tags to tell me what is inside each box.
The next two are half sizes.  I use all of these to store my paper punches, buttons and pins that are listed, buttons and pins that are waiting to be listed and smalls that are to be listed.
This is a roll top box that I store staples, paper work etc. in.
Here is a small index box I found:
It turned out to be perfect for my business cards!
Here are some I found for sale (click on photo to be taken to shop)!

I REALLY want this one!
From MoxieThrift (↑)
Okay, I REALLY want this one, too!
From  MrsRekamepip (↑)
From BlueBell (↑) (I can see a bunch of these all stacked up and holding shipping receipts, photos and postcards etc.)

Hope you enjoyed this post!

Oh, grow up

JoanOrr

When I was younger, before I grew up, my parents' friends came for a visit with their young son. While they were here, my parents took us all to go visit farm that was nearby. The little boy could not get enough of the cows. He never saw anything so big.
On our way back to our house he announced that when he grew up he was going to be a green elephant.
The cows were big enough to him that he thought they were elephants and I am guessing he just liked the color green.
I believe he grew up to be a lawyer, but I wonder if he ever thinks of when he wanted to be a green elephant….

SoftTouches

I think I wanted to be about a million things when I was young. I don't think I ever had my heart set on just one thing.

It seems like people always told us to grow up and act your age, but then they would turn around and tell us not to grow up too fast.

I think we all need to have a green elephant or two, just hanging around to remind us not to grow up too fast and forget the simpler joys in life.
