THE ANSWERS!

Last Monday my blog article featured 5 items that I wanted you to try and identify, this week I promised to tell you what they really are....even if my favorite answer was the Staple button!

Link to last weeks article....
What????

Item #1 was a pair of wasp nests we found in all old wood rowboat that had been stored on the roof of a shed lean to.....Pepper guessed this one correctly....(although I think she had some help)...just sayin!

Item #2....this is a vintage Poultry Catcher....a tool my husband used as a teenager to catch turkeys so they could be vaccinated :)  Here is a link to the new ones of today....(just in case anyone has doubts...LOL!)
            Turkey or Poultry Catcher

#3 is more a Who instead of a what...and Past Pieces Vintage
guessed correctly that this is "HENRY"....a cartoon character created by Carl Anderson in 1932....

Click on the names above to be taken to Past Pieces Vintage blog or the Wiki info about Henry....

#4....More info from my husband's work past....he used these metal ties when he worked the Burlington RR....after inspecting and closing boxcars the metal strips were attached to the door...if the strip was broken they knew the boxcar had been tampered with....the canvas bag?  It was used to carry the strips!
I have these listed in my Etsy shop if you would like more info on them...click here....transportation seal strips

And last but not least #5, the "staples easy button"...at least I am thinking this may be what generated the idea for that commercial!
As the package states this was used to cut the center out of a piece of bread to create....hamburger buns.....LOL!  Bet you never saw that one coming!

Thanks everyone for all the great guesses....I spent the day laughing out loud....I had great fun and I hope you did too :)

Freedom is Never Free

Happy Veterans’ Day and Happy Friday

Today is dedicated to the men and women that have given their time, their commitment and many of them, their lives.  We thank them and their families for the sacrifices made so that we can enjoy our freedoms.  There have been many wonderful treasuries made on Etsy to honor our heroes and fallen soldiers.  There were so many nice treasuries dedicated to our Veterans, it was hard to decide on just 1 so here are 3.

Remember, land of the free BECAUSE of the brave.  Today, go out of your way to thank a soldier, a family member of a soldier, or simply say a prayer for them.  They continue to serve their country with great honor and we should remember them always.  Never take freedom for granted!

God Bless all our soldiers:  past ~ present ~ future.

Quoted quotes

I love quotes…
There are so many good ones and ones that fit almost any occasion.
One of my favorite sites is; http://www.quotegarden.com/

There are several other ones that are good too, but I keep going back to this site.

I love to use quotes in my collages;

Winnie the Pooh and Alice in Wonderland are a great source of fun quotes also. These are two of my favorites;

Twinkle, twinkle, little bat! How I wonder what you're at.
~ The Hatter~

“People who don't Think probably don't have Brains; rather, they have grey fluff that's blown into their heads by mistake.”
~Winnie the Pooh~

I also like old items (and new) that have quotes on them. They don’t have to be “deep” meaning either, some can just be fun.

Some can have a ring of truth to them…or just make you say……oh yes.

Thanksgiving Projects for the Kids

Here are two projects the kids can make to decorate Thanksgiving table.
The Village People

Total Time Needed: 1 Hour

Materials

Scissors
Cardboard tissue tubes
Colored paper
Fine-tipped markers
Glue

Instructions

For each figure, wrap a cardboard tissue tube with a 4- by 6-inch rectangle of colored paper and glue the paper in place.

Draw the facial features on a 2- by 3-inch piece of paper with markers. Glue the face onto the tube.

For the hair, cut fringe along one side of a small paper rectangle. Roll the hair around a pen to make curls, trim it, and glue it into place.

Cut and decorate headbands and feathers for the Native Americans and collars for the Pilgrims.

For the Pilgrim girl's bonnet, wrap a 2- by 5-inch paper rectangle around the top of the tube with the ends overlapping and glue at the back.

For the Pilgrim boy's hat, cut out a black circle 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Roll and glue a black, 2- by 5-inch paper rectangle into a tube shape. Cut slits along one end, fold in the tabs, and glue them to the center of the paper circle. Add a 1/2-inch band and square buckle and glue the hat to the boy's head.

FINGER STAMP PLACE CARDS

This is an easy project for all ages.

These handy little birds are great seat markers and a fun predinner activity. Have the younger set make them for the rest of the family, or let everyone try his hand -- or at least a finger -- at making his own.

Total Time Needed: 1 Hour

Materials

Card stock as shown
Nontoxic stamp pads in brown, red, orange, and yellow
Glue
Googly eyes
Paint markers

Instructions

For each bird, fold a piece of card stock as shown (ours were roughly 3 by 4 inches). Set out nontoxic stamp pads in brown, red, orange, and yellow. Using your thumb or index finger, stamp rings of yellow, orange, and red, and a brown turkey body.

Glue googly eyes in place, then use paint markers to draw on a beak, snood, and feet and to write a guest's name below the bird.

Have fun with your family over Thanksgiving and with these projects.

WHAT???????

As an antique and or vintage dealer a question we hear quite a bit is..."What is it?"

So today I am showing photos of 5 items that I want you to identify and tell what it would have been used for.....post your answers in the comment section....whoever correctly identifies the most items wins....absolutely nothing....but the satisfaction of being right :)

                 Item #1...this should be easy.....

Item #2...a little tougher to identify?

Item #3, this is actually a "Who is it?"

Item #4...the metal pieces in the bag are what you need to identify :)

Item #5....Last but not least.....a hint...you can push the red top section down...

Waterfalls

Happy Friday Everyone
I want to continue on my “nature” run this week, focusing on waterfalls.  Whether large or small, man-made or natural, the rush of water falling over rocks, into a pool of water below just brings my heart such peace and joy.  Don’t laugh, I know you know what I’m talking about!  A force of nature at times, but peaceful and serene at others, I just get that “ahhhh” feeling.  So let’s check out some artistic expressions of waterfalls.
