It's a Dog Day

I’ve grown up my entire life around dogs.  In fact, there are very few days that I can remember where I didn’t have a dog.  Pictures of me as a youngster with a dog that was bigger than I was.  Those memories always put a smile on my face.

While growing up and walking the streets when dogs roamed around (though they should have been on leashes) my friends would cringe when I put my hand out to a dog.  I wanted to be their friend.  I wanted to pet them.  I just wanted to show them a little love.

In my home it was always shepherds and collies.  I really don’t know why those two particular breeds, but those were my Mom’s favorites.  I remember the day I brought home a golden retriever; my Mom had this look in her eye.  I knew right then there was a problem.  But it didn’t take long for her to warm up to this new bundle of fuzz.  She was a puppy, just 8 weeks old.  And now, my lab/retriever mix is the light of my life.

Just something about animals:  they bring us joy, make us smile and when the day is rough, they simply love us.  For those of you that aren’t major fans of dogs, you may not understand, but for you dog lovers, you know EXACTLY what I’m saying.

I just wanted to share a few great images by some great artists.  When you see the look in their eyes, how you can not love a dog!  Great companions, unconditional love, total devotion!

My Pup

Dogs are great pets, and there are tons of dogs that need to be adopted.  Visit your local shelter or rescue, but do your homework first.  Here is a great site for information about all breeds.

Find one that fits your home life situation.  Then, get yourself a dog!
And now, it’s time for me to go play with my pup.  Have a fantastic Friday!

I remember the wonderful pets I've had. I also remember and am grateful for a German Shepherd that protected my daughter and kept her safe. This same German Shepherd protected and stayed with my Mother when she was seriously injured and alone.

Thanks for a great post Duude.

Oh dear. Was this planned to make me cry?

Everyone hug their dogs. Pepper head, you'll have to share that story sometime..

had a dog all while growing up, then got some cats, had dogs and cats...(they all got along, believe it or not) Now we have 2 cats. I had a horse too, could be like a really big dog.
There is something very very special about dogs or pets. Everyone should have at least one sometime during their lives.
