ort

Ort
What is it?
(yes I meant Ort, with an O…)

If you go by the dictionary it states that an ort
is leftover morsels of food. I always heard it used
in sewing circles as leftover threads, scraps or the
container to put them in.

I like this definition best;
Ort \¨òrt\: noun; a snippet or leftover bit of
thread, usually resulting from a voracious
addiction to handcrafted needlework

I started collaging a small wooden box and as
I was working on it, it came to me that I would
turn it into an Ort box.
So here it is;

I found a few other handmade orts for sale
and will share them with you…

BarbSWoodworks
These are made from glass, wood and paper.
So there is quite a variety in materials for
the few I found.
sherriberkman
TemariKai
All of these are beautiful and would serve
the purpose they are intended for very well
or they would look nice just displayed.

One could also start an Ort collection…
(Just a thought)

have a wonderful day

So cool! I've never heard of such a thing! I just bet an Ort would make a perfect container for winkles!

As usual, I learned something new here today. I'd never heard of an ort box before. Thanks jj.

And yes, Runs, they would make wonderful containers for winkles. LOL

LOL!
I would think an ort box would work well for an addiction to paper...or winkles. The nice thing about an ort container is that you can really use it for anything. There is no rule of orts, so you can do anything with them.

Wow, I never knew until now that this is exactly what I need!
How is it possible that I have been sewing "stuff" for years (a lot of years) and never heard about "ort" containers.....
I am still quilting the Granddaughters quilt and have lots of snippets floating around...but not anymore...Thanks!

Voracious Addition! Now that's a mouthful. Little word (ort)for little items (scraps). (why am I not surprised at JJ's tiny ORT box) JJ, you did a great job on your ort box. And those others are also pretty amazing pieces.

Learning new stuff every day around here!

Can I simply just say what a comfort to find someone that truly understands
what they're discussing on the internet. You actually know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. A lot more people should look at this and understand this side of the story. I can't believe you aren't more popular because you certainly have the gift.
