Share a Memory About Your Dad

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY WEEKEND

I just want to say “sorry” to my ACJ crew for jumping the gun, because it seems that since so many holidays fall on Sunday I tend to take advantage of them.  I know, my bad.  ☺

I have great memories of my Dad.  I know I’ve already talked about his woodworking skills but did I mention he played accordion?  And he taught it too!  (and I was one of his students)  I remember when he was teaching at a studio not too far from home back in 19 ( oh never mind back when – lol) and during the days I didn’t have school, I would go with him.  I had to sit in class and play along with his students.  Ugh, those were some pretty rough times.  Practicing with an instrument that was bigger than I was, but still they were great memories.

But the part I liked the best was just being with my Dad.  Driving and talking, taking "coca cola" breaks (and getting out of chores at home)  I miss him every day and I carry the best parts of him inside me.   

This was a song he played quite often and my Mom just loved to listen to him. 

(I don’t have a video of him playing so you get Myron and I don’t mind saying, Dad was just as good)  We would all sit and watch the Lawrence Welk show every week and if he didn’t have one of songs in his repertoire, he would listen carefully, and start practicing the next day.  Eventually he “dumped” the accordion and started on the keyboard.    (hehe)   I learned later in life that he was actually a part of a band.  So that’s where I get my love of music! 

Anyway, to all the dad’s out there, have an incredible day.  And to those whose fathers have passed or are simply not around, celebrate them anyway.  Take some time to remember the good times.

Butterscotch Brownies

I am kind of cheating today.

I have been going to work at an unnatural hour and coming home ready for a nap everyday. So I thought I would do a simple post today (since my brain is tired )

This is one of my all time favorite recipes.

They are very simple to make and they taste unbelievable.

I always used to love walking home from the bus stop and as soon as I would get to the front door I could tell by the heavenly scent when my mom was baking.  Of course there was nothing better than warm chocolate chip cookies and a nice cold glass of milk to make the day even better.

These brownies are a favorite of my girls and my nephews too. The recipe makes one batch in an 8” pan. To be honest I have never ever made an 8” pan of these. I always double the recipe and use a 9 x 13” pan. I do put a little less than double of the vanilla though, but that is just my taste.

I  do not put nuts in mine, but that is an option as well as using different flavored chips.  I personally think that good old chocolate chips are the best in this recipe.

Butterscotch brownies;

(note: I have not doubled the recipe here, you can double it if you choose)

Melt ¼ cup butter in sauce pan.

Stir in 1 cup brown sugar until dissolved

( I use light brown sugar but you can use either)

Cool slightly.

Beat 1 egg in well,

Mix in 1 tsp vanilla

Sift then measure ½ cup flour

Add

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

Stir into butter mixture.

Pour into an 8”x8” greased and floured pan

Sprinkle chocolate chips on top

Bake at 350 for appx. 30 minutes.

I usually test these at about 25 minutes.

Let cool then cut

SMALL FORMAT ART

Small format art is not an ACEO, although it is an offshoot of the art card.
I've done several art cards but prefer the small format art because there is more flexibility in the size, and you can use more variety in the surface you select.  Some surfaces create problems for the collector of ACEOs.

Small format art (SFA) offers mixed media, collage, and fiber art, as well as photographic, watercolor, oil, acrylic, and pastel original works.  One thing I like is that you don't find the prints of original work in the SFA area like you do with ACEO's.
