When I
was younger, before I grew up, my parents' friends came for a visit with their
young son. While
they were here, my parents took us all to go visit farm that was nearby. The
little boy could not get enough of the cows. He never saw anything so big.
On our
way back to our house he announced that when he grew up he was going to be a
green elephant.
The cows were big enough to him that he thought they were elephants and I
am guessing he just liked the color green.
I
believe he grew up to be a lawyer, but I wonder if he ever thinks of when he
wanted to be a green elephant….
I
think I wanted to be about a million things when I was young. I don't think I ever had my heart set on just one thing.
It
seems like people always told us to grow up and act your age, but then they would
turn around and tell us not to grow up too fast.
I
think we all need to have a green elephant or two, just hanging around to
remind us not to grow up too fast and forget the simpler joys in life.
