What do you think of when you hear "wire artwork"?

If you think of wire wrapped jewelry, you are not alone. That's what most people are familiar with. However, wire art is an old artform and one that I find most interesting. Several years ago I became interested in this medium.  I bought all the books and instruction manuals so I could create these wonderful works of art. Oh yes, I had such magnificent pictures dancing in my head....and as it turned out, they only existed in my head, and are still dancing around in there.

This is an artform and medium that takes hours and hours of practice and the patience of a saint, not to mention the finger dexterity of a magician. At least, that's my opinion after failing miserably in my efforts. Needless to say I have a true appreciation of the artists who have all these talents and have mastered this artform and medium.

Vintage Wire Dress Forms and Mannequins

I just learned that this particular old wire dress form is the one that inspired the structure of the Statue of Liberty. I just had to begin the post with this information because I found it so fascinating.
I don't think I'm the only one with a fascination for the vintage dress forms. In searching websites I found a variety of shapes, as well as a variety of ideas utilizing these wonderful pieces of history.

I've managed over the years to acquire quite a few items I knew I would treasure, but so far I haven't found a dress form that I can afford. (That is such a stumbling block for satifying all my wants. LOL)

There are so many fun and beautiful ways to use vintage items in your home.  I like to create a grouping of items of various sizes and textures that enhance each other.  At one time I did the window displays for a store that had crafted and vintage items.  These groupings were a main focal point in each display.  Try creating one on a table, dresser, shelf, or mantel in your home, I know you'll love it.

The Magnificent Vintage Wire Basket

I adore all things vintage but have a real love of the vintage wire basket. These wonderful treasures seem to have endless uses and fit into all types of decor. They are used in living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, offices, craft rooms, garages, and I've even seen an old gym basket used in the trunk of a car. In fact, I'm thinking of getting one for the trunk of my car to hold the water bottles when I refill them. (In Nevada water bottles hold a sacred place in our lives. LOL)

A few years ago my father gave me a wonderful old white chippy paint egg basket that I use in my living room. I've also used it several times as a prop for my photographs of product on Etsy.
