Get Organized Around the House!

Last week VS did a blog post on ways to store and organize our Christmas and Holiday items.

Well...that led me to wonder about ways to store and organize items in our home or office....I am a lover of vintage, especially vintage metal items....like galvanized metal and tin..(be still my ♥)!

Since I have a shop on Etsy, that seemed like the first place to look...amongst all the wonderful vintage and antique shops there...
WooHoo...I had so much fun!  Here are a few of the useful and unique items I found....*repurposing a vintage or antique item is one of the best ways to keep our landfills emptier*.

              Trinket Box or Storage Box
This little box would be useful in so many ways....in the office, studio, bath, bedroom, man cave.....I love it!

And look at this "Key Stop" piece....Hang it up on the wall...put some magnetic hooks on it and you will never again wonder "Now where did I put my keys????)

                              Key Stop
Another plus is how clever your friends and family will think you are!

                            Washboard

Speaking of magnets (and we were...sort of..) this old washboard would make a great bulletin board...using some clever magnets to hold the messages, they could even be message magnets...(get it?)  LOL!  (sorry, could not resist that one)

            Antique Receipts File Board

This antique receipts board would make another super message board, or a reminder board...not that any of us need a place to put "reminders"!  But just in case this would be perfect!

Are you wondering where to store all those little small things, those "things" we can't live without but can never "remember" where we put them???  How about this cabinet??? Just look at all those drawers....you could hang a cute little tag from each drawer that would tell you what is stored inside :)

       Metal Divided Storage Box

Seems to me the divided storage would be very useful in a studio also....here's another divided box that makes a great storage/organizer...

                    Divided Metal Box
I think this smaller size box would work great in a sewing area or room....hmmmm....

                Tin Handled Basket

Do you need something that you can carry from room to room?  These metal baskets with handles may be just what you are looking for...

                Galvanized Jar Tray

I think a gardener would love the jar tray....for new plantings, tools, or full of beautiful cuttings from the garden...what a fantastic spring look that would be for your special place....(don't get discouraged, Spring will be here in a couple of months!).

Just click on the name below each photo to be taken to the item in the shop....

I hope these have given you lots of great ideas to organize and brighten your home, office or studio....and encouraged you to "GET STARTED!"....

A Stroll Through Artists and Pickers

The first Friday of 2012, wow, how fast this first week is flying by.  Or is it just me?  Anyway, on with the show:  VE started the week off showing an elegant to this group so I thought I would show another side!  In some cases, it might be a creative side and in others, it might be some simple vintage flair.

So first up, the creator and author of our fun blog, RunsWithScissors4 or RWS (or "runs" as we call her).  She has so many fun items between her 2 shops and website, it was really hard to choose, but I decided to go with her RWS shop.  I love her paper beads, but I’m going with her little matchbooks.  She finds some of the coolest paper and manages to cut the best part of the design.  Check these out:
Mini Notepads - THANKS - great customer appreciation gift - Pigs
RWS
Now tell me, who doesn’t just love a little piggy!

Next up is Pepperhead (as we lovingly call her) and she does an amazing job with a paintbrush.  She makes some wonderful gift tags, but her gift bags are amazing.  There are many colors and styles to choose from, but once you see them, you may NOT want to use them.  And its okay, you get a set so you can keep one for yourself, and give the others away.  I love these:
Three Black Gift Bags with Print of Original Painting & Matching Tags, Handmade Embellished
Peppercorns2
I think these are my favorite ~ a great color match up!

GG (aka MSS) has another shop that some people don’t know about.  It’s all about paper ephemera.  When I first read that, I had no idea what it meant, nor how to say it.  The definition for ephemera is “paper items that were originally meant to be discarded after use, but have since become collectibles.  Vintage paper!  Well, that also means vintage books, and what greater vintage books are there than children’s books.  This is a great set:
Lot of 22 Vintage hardcover books 1950's-60's Best in Children's Books collection
PapersOfOld

Check out those illustrations!

Another one of our “creative” spirits is JJ.  She has made some really awesome ACEO’s, ornaments, and chalk ware items, but I must say, what really boggles my mind are her Moravian stars (or starts as we call them ~ lol).  Why am I so boggled?  The stars are made in a variety of sizes, but if you read the description on these, I cannot personally imagine working with paper so small.  I’m sure it has more to do with my fat fingers, but JJ is also known for her love of “tiny things”.  After all, some of her posts have been dedicated to tiny works of art.  So tell me, what do you think about these?

Did you read the size of those strips of paper?  Wow is all I can say.

Last but not least, the one who started off our new year, VE.  There have been some very cool vintage pieces in her shop over the years.  And her “photo shoots” alone are pretty fun and amazing.  We’ve tried to get her to make cards from some of them, and who knows maybe someday, there will be a series of note cards listed in her shop.  (hint hint again)  Anyway, she’s found some mascots recently to include in her listings, so I think I chose this item first for one of her newest mascots, and then for the item itself.  Tell me, isn’t he cute?  (and the flower frog is fun too)  haha

And don’t bother asking, Henry is NOT for sale ~ we’ve already tried!

Click on their shop names to visit their shops.  Take your time and look around.  I have no doubt you’ll find some fun treasures, but if you see something you like, you might want to consider purchasing right away.  Some things just seem to disappear pretty quick!

Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend, and may 2012 be a year filled with good things for everyone.  Take lots of deep breaths, smell the flowers, and share a smile whenever you can!
See ya next week!

After Holiday Organizing

Well, it's that time of the year. Time to clean up and organize after all the parties and gatherings. I'd like to keep my "stuff" out all year long but then I think it would get old real fast! Not to mention my friends and family all ready think I'm crazy, so to see Christmas items in Feb. just wouldn't cut it!

I found some of the neatest items to store your holiday items. Some of them I just want for no apparent reason!

(Remember, click on the photos to be taken directly to stores!)

From the Cover Store, take a look at the beautiful store bags they offer!

Available from Get Organized, I just LOVE this box!

The Container Store has these great boxes to store your dinnerware!

You really need something better than that old plastic bag to store your wreath! How about this from Bed, Bath and Beyond?
Organize.com has this garland keeper:

Meijer.com has light spools to keep those lights from becoming tangled all up:
For those special collectibles, here are some pouches from Improvements:
This works all year round! A gift bag organizer, again, from Get Organized:

Look around the stores to see all the great items they have for storage!

Happy New Year!

the new year....

So we all took a little holiday from posting on the blog and thought we would start the new year out fresh.
Well,
my first idea VE used, then pepper sucked up my second idea….
It’s a good thing I don’t post on Friday’s or there would be nothing left for me to say!
I am really just kidding. We don’t have any idea what anybody else is going to write about, unless we decide we want to do a theme week. Then we all know about what the others are going to write, but not what they will do.
I personally love checking in each day to see what they have to say or show.  It is almost always a surprise.

Anyway I suppose I should get to my post.
I thought I would start my first new years post by finding some brand new shops to show off.
I didn’t get very far….
I found a really sweet illustration and my idea just took off on it’s own.

Did you guess what I got sidetracked by yet?...lol
Yes, a bunch of owls.

Late one night my husband and I came home and we heard a very weird sound coming from the woods. (it was creepy) It kept moving around and screeching from high to low, left and then right. After my husband said wth is that??? We decided that it must have been a screech owl. (I was able to sleep after that…ha!)

I love the way owls turn their heads and barely blink. It is like the effort is almost too much for them

Sometimes it seems like they are looking right through you.

I do think of owls as being rather regal…

I hope you enjoyed my little sidetrack with the owls.

WINTER PBN'S REFLECT A VINTAGE PASTTIME

vintage paint by number - winter bridge - framed - 12 x 16

This post is dedicated to our very own Vintage Station (AKA Runs With Scissors) who has a major  obsession with the old paint by number sets.

These are all great PBN's featuring winter scenes.  I admit I painted many of these when I was a kid.  They were a wonderful hobby and pasttime.  I even found one recently in a box of keepsakes I didn't know existed and that was a happy surprise!

Vintage Paint By Number Painting, Winter Water Scene, 16x20

Large Vintage Paint by Numbers Winter Scene with Cabin, New England, Oak Frame 1960's

The winter scenes just seemed appropriate for my first post of the New Year.  And I really do love winter and the snow.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!

January 2, 2012

I just needed to practice writing 2012!

For my first blog post of the year 2012 ( I will get used to it) I want to feature items from my blog buddies.....the more elegant side of them since it is a New Year's Celebration....

First up from JJ, found in her CranberryLake shop...these lovely vintage, mint green placemats (or wonderful little hand towels), the cup and saucer is not for sale but look how perfect the little placemats work with vintage china!  These are in unfinished condition which means you get to add your own special touch to them!

         Mint Green Huck Placemats

From Cranberrylake I traveled to DoodleVintagePlus (isn't this a fun  trip) where I discovered this stunning ring....how perfect is this for a New Year?????  Glamor at a reasonable price....WooHoo!
             White Faux Opal Ring....

               Antique Marquee Letter
Now on to Peppercorns2, here I  was able to satisfy my love of white chippy paint and find elegance along with it....how great is that!  Look at this antique marquee letter....it has a very elegant look when displayed with lovely items :)  You may want to hurry and buy it however....the original letter I had chosen to feature just SOLD!

I think vintage rhinestone jewelry can add a touch of elegance to any outfit...I really love rhinestone pins on blazer jackets...especially when worn with jeans....so off to VintageStation I went....knowing she always has some great "gems"!  Well....look what I found....she never disappoints!
               Vintage Rhinestone Brooch

One more shop to visit.....I should do this more often....great stuff here...
GG has her card shop but she also has a shop named MySeriousSide, that is where I went to find her elegant side...she buys old picture frames and repurposes them into groupings...hang them with or without pictures in them...they will look wonderful either way :)  This group of 7 has a bonus, the sweet little shelf comes with them....
Group of 7 Upcycled Frames and Shelf

Next I went to my shop looking for elegance...guess what??? I found none! (Remember I like Rhinestone jewelry with jeans...enough said).
So I will leave you with this item which does seem appropriate....
